WEEK 2 RANKINGS: Ferndale climbs into the boys basketball top 25, East Lansing is on the cusp of the top 10

Here are the STATE CHAMPS! boys basketball team rankings after Week 2 and one has to be thankful for the amount of quality games in this early season. East Lansing climbs to the cusp of the top 10, while Ferndale is welcomed into the top 25.

1 Ann Arbor Huron (D1, 3-0, 3-0 SEC Red)
Previous ranking: 1
How they fared: Beat Ypsilanti Community, 51-31; beat Monroe, 47-26.
Win over Monroe and delays in games vs. Pioneer and Skyline set the week back. Perhaps a game at Saline on Friday, Feb. 26, will happen.
2 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (D1, 3-0, 1-0 CHSL Central)
Previous ranking: 2
How they fared: Beat No. 4 Grand Blanc, 65-52.
Double-digit home wins over current No. 3 Grand Blanc and No. 24 Flint Beecher. Big game are on the slate for Orchard Lake St. Mary’s with home games vs. No. 4 Hamtramck on Tuesday and Detroit Henry Ford on Friday before hitting the road to No. 9 Warren De La Salle.
3 Grand Blanc (D1, 5-1, 4-0 SVL Blue)

How they fared: Lost to No. 2 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 65-52; beat No. 14 Muskegon, 71-53, beat Davison, 82-44.
The Bobcats have a test on the road vs. Saginaw on Thursday followed by a home game to round out the week vs. undefeated Saginaw Arthur Hill.
4 Hamtramck (D1, 5-0, 3-0 MMAC Blue)

How they fared: Beat Taylor Trillium Academy, 94-53; beat No. 3 River Rouge, 62-56.
Tom Paciorek, where are you? The Cosmos went on the road to beat both Ecorse and River Rouge, and they’ll be back on the road Tuesday, against No. 2 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s is the game of the week, then stay on the road with a Wednesday game within the conference vs. Detroit University-Prep.
5 Grand Rapids Catholic Central (D2, 6-0, 5-0 OK Gold)
Previous ranking: 9
How they fared: Beat Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, 71-28; beat Cedar Springs, 78-16; get No. 7 Grand Rapids Christian, 59-44.
A Saturday night win vs. then-No. 5 Grand Rapids Christian moves GRCC into the top 5. The Cougars have upcoming games vs. Kenowa Hills, Wayland Union, and South Christian.
6 River Rouge (D1, 3-1, 1-1 MMAC Blue)
Previous ranking: 3
How they fared: Beat Detroit University Prep, 66-30; lost to No. 6 Hamtramck, 62-56.
A win up North vs. Traverse City St. Francis and an inter-conference win vs. University Prep helped ease the sting of a home loss vs. then-No. 6 Hamtramck.
7 Zeeland East (D1, 6-0, 4-0 OK Green)

How they fared: Beat Grand Rapids Union, 46-30; beat Muskegon Mona Shores, 68-40; beat Hudsonville Unity Christian, 59-51.
The zone, the zone, the zone. Zeeland East stays undefeated with three wins, and this week the Chix face Wyoming, rival Zeeland West, and No. 20 Muskegon.
8 Grand Rapids Christian (D2, 5-1, 4-1 OK White)

How they fared: Beat Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central, 71-61; beat Grand Rapids Northview, 77-58; lost to No. 9 Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 59-44.
The loss to then-No. 9 Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Saturday bumped the Eagles down a few spots. Top 25 bubble team Forest Hills Northern, Lowell, and East Grand Rapids are on the clock.
9 Detroit King (D1, 3-0)

How they fared: Beat Roseville, 61-39.
A spur of the moment home win vs. Roseville and this week they’ll face Goodrich, a top 25 bubble team, on Tuesday and a league game vs. East English Village on Friday.
10 Warren De La Salle (D1, 5-0, 3-0 CHSL Central)

How they fared: Beat Detroit Renaissance, 85-43; beat Birmingham Detroit Country Day, 73-34.
Forty-point wins vs. Detroit Renaissance and Detroit Country Day and now a week on the road vs. always tough Okemos followed by No. 2 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
11 East Lansing (D1, 3-0, 3-0 OK Blue)

How they fared: Beat Lansing Waverly, 77-59; beat Holt, 40-35.
After beating Holt and Waverly, this week the Trojans host Grand Ledge before road games at Lansing Everett and DeWitt.
12 North Farmington (D1, 4-0, 3-0 OAA Red)
Previous ranking: 16
How they fared: Beat Farmington, 71-54; beat West Bloomfield, 50-39.
All double-digit wins this season with last week’s wins vs. rivals Farmington and West Bloomfield. They’ll travel to Farmington on Wednesday and host new top 25 member Ferndale (now No. 17) on Friday.
13 Detroit Cass Tech (D1, 6-0)

How they fared: Beat Southfield A&T, 54-40; beat University Prep, 88-51; beat Eastpointe
Top 25 bubble team Clarkston hosts Cass with league games vs. Renaissance and Cody later in the week.
