WEEK 3 RANKINGS: A trio of top-10 teams slide, while L’Anse Creuse North, Port Huron jump into girls basketball top 25

By: MATTHEW B. MOWERY, March 1, 2021, 6:00 am

Three top-10 teams slid a few spots after taking losses this week — the first of the season for both West Bloomfield and East Kentwood, while Renaissance rebounded from a loss to Port Huron to beat a stacked Wayne Memorial team — but none of those teams bear the nickname of Pioneers.

The two Pioneers squads — Detroit Edison and East Grand Rapids — continue to motor along unbeaten, while Saline and Hartland have surged into the top five.

While Edison still hasn’t lost in 55 games and counting (dating back to a Dec. 15, 2018 loss to a nationally ranked Columbus Africentric squad), and hasn’t lost to a Michigan team in 1,145 days (dating back to a 54-49 loss to Ypsilanti Arbor Prep on Jan. 11, 2018), those streaks sure were close to being snapped this past week, as Edison needed OT to get past then No. 18-ranked Farmington Hills Mercy by a point.

No. 15 Frankenmuth and No. 22 Bay City John Glenn needed two overtimes to separate, while L’Anse Creuse North has quietly put together a solid resume through eight games, necessitating a move to add them to the top 25.
