WEEK 5 RANKINGS: Losses to top-ranked teams open door for Midland Dow to crack top 10; Grosse Pointe North joins girls basketball top 25

By: MATTHEW B. MOWERY, March 15, 2021, 6:58 am

It’s been hard to hold on to a top-10 spot in recent weeks, as the top teams — with the exception of Detroit Edison, of course — have taken a few hits. The Pioneers knocked off a trio of top-15 teams in the last seven days, further solidifying what’s a foregone conclusion: That there’s a No. 1 squad, and then some separation to the rest. West Bloomfield and East Grand Rapids both fell victim to Edison, while Saline took its first loss at the hands of Temperance Bedford. Those losses opened the door for a Midland Dow team — coming off wins over cross-town rival Midland and a previously unbeaten Frankenmuth squad — to crack the top 10. While the MPR may be locked in, in terms of seeding for the districts, we’ve still got one more week of jockeying for position in the final top 25, before the playoffs start a week from today.
