Stars shine early; Gondrezick of Benton Harbor and Brandon Johns of East Lansing off to quick starts

Benton Harbor – The leading candidate for the 2016 Miss Basketball award and one of the top candidates for the 2018 Mr. Basketball award started this season with a rush.
Kysre Gondrezick of Benton Harbor (2-0) opened the season with a 44-point performance in a 70-38 victory over Niles. She also had 10 assists, five steals and five rebounds.
Last Friday Gondrezick (5-10) set the school career scoring record as she had 43 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 61-39 victory over Portage Central. Destiny Williams held the previous record with 2,026 points. Gondrezick has 2,063 points.
No girl from Benton Harbor has won the Miss Basketball award.
Gondrezick signed with Michigan.
Brandon Johns, a 6-8 guard-forward from East Lansing (2-0), had 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in East Lansing’s 60-45 victory over DeWitt in the season opener. Last Friday Johns had 23 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and three steals in a 53-49 victory over Jackson.
