STATE CHAMPS! ALL-JUNIOR TEAM: Final four for wrestling

This week, we’ll be rolling out the final four nominees for each winter sport, to narrow down who’s still in play for a spot on our STATE CHAMPS! 2019-20 All-Junior Team. The final winter All-Junior Team will be unveiled in early April.
First up, we take a look at the final four for wrestling:

• Brendan Ferretti, Macomb Dakota
Third at 103 in 2018, and the defending 112 champ, Ferretti won the 119 title as a junior, handing Andrew Hampton of Stoney Creek a 7-3 decision. Entered the finals at 30-1.
• Alex Facundo, Davison
The defending D1 champion at 160 (he won 152 in 2018), Facundo won his third straight D1 individual title, beating Grandville’s Josh Kenny in a major decision (13-5) at 171. Was 35-2 entering the finals.
• Stoney Buell, Dundee
The defending D3 champ at 152 (he won 135 in 2018), Buell beat Gladwin’s Randy Pyrzewski in a major decision (12-4) to win his third title, this one in the 160-pound weight class. He was 41-3 entering the finals.
• Tyler Swiderski, Dundee
The D3 runner-up at 135 a year ago and at 112 as a freshman, he beat Stockbridge’s Kael Bunce (6-2) to capture the 145-pound title this year. Also helped Dundee to its third straight Division 3 team title. He was 43-3 entering the finals.
