STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Detroit Douglass’ Pierre Brooks II picks Michigan St.
Detroit Douglass junior Pierre Brooks II made his college choice Wednesday, picking Michigan State from among 16 offers.
He announced the decision in a video posted to Twitter.
The 6-foot-6, four-star combo guard averaged 23.2 points, seven rebounds and 4.7 assists, earning Division 2 all-state honors from the Associated Press and was one of 13 players honored by BCAM on their “Best of the Best” team.
He’s a finalist for a spot on the STATE CHAMPS! All-Junior Team, as well.
Michigan, Michigan State and Xavier were his final three choices, but Brooks also had offers from Northwestern, Alabama, Butler, Arizona State, Missouri, Kansas State, Illinois, Iowa, Duquesne, Cal, Louisville, Stanford and Purdue. The Spartans were considered a favorite by most going into Wednesday’s announcment.
Brooks was ranked as the No. 27 shooting guard and No. 113 player in the nation by Rivals, while 247Sports Composite rankings had him as the No. 21 shooting guard and No. 96 player in the nation, and the No. 2 player in Michigan’s 2021 class.
Brooks led Douglass to a 17-5 record and a spot in the Detroit Public School League title game as a junior. The Hurricanes were still alive and headed to the district finals when the MHSAA postseasons were halted.
