STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Football Recruiting Notebook (Big Nasty Edition) — Lepo Locked In For Tucker & Michigan State

By: SCOTT M. BURNSTEIN, March 22, 2021, 1:36 am

He took the leap to East Lansing and will be a stalwart in Michigan State’s recruiting haul next year.

Grand Haven junior offensive lineman Ashton Lepo committed to Michigan State earlier in March, giving the Spartans a workhorse prospect they can build their future line crop around.

Lepo (6-foot-7, 275 pounds) is a three-star recruit. College scouts love his footwork and burst off the snap in pass protection. He chose Michigan State over Indiana, Baylor and Cincinnati.

By bringing Lepo into the fold in East Lansing, Spartans head coach Mel Tucker snared his second in-state prospect for the Class of ’22. Roseville’s junior three-star wide receiver Tyrell Henry committed to MSU in January.

Five More OL To Watch This Spring On The Recruiting Trail:

Deone Walker (Detroit Cass Tech 6-7, 320 Jr.) — Hottest OL recruit on the market right now, floodgates have officially flung wide open.

Jonathan Slack (Detroit King 6-3, 275 Soph.) — Might be the No. 1 OL in Metroit Detroit by this time next year, stock continues to rise.

Ka’Marii Landers (Dearborn Fordson 6-3, 295 Jr.) — Just oozing with upside, the prototype of what you want anchoring your line at the point of attack.

Danny Babcock (Lake Orion 6-4, 275 Jr.) — One of the most underrated trench terrors in the OAA, tons of tenacity, technique and a high motor.

Ben Flake (Novi Detroit Catholic Central 6-5, 285 Jr.) — Think CC’s CMU-bound Bruno Guberinich this time last year, all the tools to excel at the DI level in college.
