STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Indiana basketball recruiting notebook — Commitments for two of Indy’s top prospects, Brebeuf’s Smith & Cathedral’s Comer

Notable recent commitments
Billy Smith (Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit 6-foot-6 SG/SF) — The Circle City Sniper committed to Miami (Ohio). Smith, one of the IHSAA’s best outside shooters, averaged 18 points per game last season and shot 45 percent from 3-point range.
Tayshawn Comer (Indianapolis Cathedral 6-0 G) —As explosive as he is versatile in the backcourt, Comer committed to Eastern Kentucky. Both Miami (Ohio) and Ball State were in hot pursuit of his talents, but Cathedral’s crafty, playmaking point guard decided to head to the Atlantic Sun Conference instead. Comer logged 16 points and six assists per season the last two years.
Karson Jenkins (Ft. Wayne Snider 6-1, G) — The high-scoring Ft. Wayne gunner chose the D-II route and committed to Barry University down in Miami, Fla. In 2021, Jenkins pumped in 22 points per night.

The next ‘Chosen One’
The Hoosier State’s latest phenom hoopster, Fishers freshman wing guard Jalen Haralson, snagged Big Ten scholarship offers from Indiana University and Maryland last month. The 6-6 Haralson is as naturally talented as any incoming ninth-grade prodigy the IHSAA has seen. He played last summer with Team Teague on the AAU circuit. Scouts describe him as a fluid swingman with lethal skills on the perimeter and in the open floor who plays with a point-guard’s mentality.
