STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Indiana basketball recruiting notebook — IU-East bags McNary; Smith, Ivanyo go D-III
McNasty in the building, ready to stay the Beast from the East.
Warren Central senior big fella Gabe McNary inked with IU-East last weekend. The 6-foot-9 McNary patrolled the post with vigor and great rim-running anticipation helping power the WC Warriors to an 18-7 record this winter. McNary averaged 12 points and eight rebounds. IU-East is a NAIA DII program in Richmond, Indiana.
Moving over to the Northwestern part of the state, Crown Point’s senior combo guard Ty Smith signed with St. Ambrose, an NAIA DIII school in Davenport, Iowa. Smith is scrappy and hard-nosed attacking the rack and creating for his teammates. He averaged 20 points, four rebounds and three assists per night in 2021.
After ticking the twine for 18 points and grabbing eight boards per night this past season, Morgan Twp. senior gunner Tate Ivanyo, one of the most underrated small-school hoopsters in Hoosierland, has signed with DIII Anderson University. Ivanyo is 6-3 and dangerous off the dribble and shooting it from downtown. He was a Valpo area Viper his entire career, both on the basketball court and on the soccer pitch.
