STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Indiana football recruiting notebook: Goodwin, Strickland narrow college choices, Jackson picks up steam

The No. 1 overall recruit in the Hoosierland’s Class of 2022, Charlestown junior offensive lineman Kiyaunta Goodwin (6-foot-7, 320 pounds) has a top five selected, naming Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Kentucky and Michigan State as his final choices. Goodwin landed in Indiana last summer from Kentucky.

Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit junior defensive end Joe Strickland (6-5, 265), the state’s top pass rusher in his class, trimmed his list of scholarship offers to a Final 10 of Michigan, Virginia, Indiana, Cincinnati, Purdue, Penn St, Northwestern, Stanford, Nebraska and Harvard.

Center Grove junior quarterback Tayven Jackson (6-5, 190), the player with possibly the highest ceiling in his recruiting class, earned offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, NC State, Illinois and UCLA in recent weeks. Jackson led Center Grove to a state championship last fall. His top nine, which he released on March 12, includes most of those teams (all but NC State), along with Florida St., Washington St., Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Merrillville junior defensive tackle Kenny Grant (6-5, 340) is a real value grab at his position and recently snared offers from Michigan and Illinois.

From The About to Blow Dept.: Decatur Central junior slotback Javon Tracey (6-1, 185) and Bloomington South junior cornerback Daeh McCullough (6-2, 195). Tracey’s only high-major offer is Iowa. McCullough moved to Indiana from Kansas City back in January and already has offers from Michigan, Penn State, Mississippi State and Arkansas
