STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Michigan basketball recruiting notebook — Providence pulls Geeter for Friars’ 21 class
Have no fear Friars fans, he’ll be bringing his lunch pail and hardhat with him to the Big East. This is the kind of guy everyone wants on their squad and watching their “six.” The kind of guy born for the heat of battle
River Rouge senior forward Legend Geeter, maybe the hardest-working frontcourt recruit in Metro Detroit’s Class of 2021, committed to Providence earlier this month, giving Friars Nation a downright nasty prospect who constantly plays with a chip on his shoulder. The 6-foot-7 Geeter averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and three assists per game as a junior and reminds some scouts of Draymond Green in terms of his diverse, positionless style on the court.
As a sophomore, Geeter starred on a River Rouge club that lost in the Division 2 state finals to Hudsonville Tri-Unity Christian. Last winter, the Panthers were 20-1 when the state tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Georgetown, Missouri and Rhode Island were also in the hunt for his services before Geeter chose Ed Cooley and the Providence Friars. Cooley has taken the Friars on five trips to the NCAA Tournament in the past seven seasons.
Burney Gives You Five “Low-Key” Recruits To Watch:
Tyson Edmondson (Ann Arbor Huron 6-5 Sr. G) — Pretty stroke, pesky competitor, plays quarterback on the gridiron, got Lake Superior State offer last month
Mike Morris (Grand Rapids West Catholic 6-3 Jr. G) — The best kept secret in Grand Rapids right now, natural scoring threat.
Nate Brown (Grand Blanc 6-2 Sr. G) — The consummate combo guard, heady playmaker in the half-court set, great in the open floor on transition.
Triston Nichols (Warren De La Salle 6-4 Soph. G/F) — The next big thing on the Pilots hoop scene, wait for it!!!
Robert Davis (Farmington 6-5 Jr. G) — Pro-range rhythm shooter eliciting memories of an old-school Chuck “The Rifleman” Person.
