STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Shooting for the stars in Madison — Central Noble’s Essegian makes it Wisconsin, heads to Big Ten

“On, Wisconsin” will be the mantra in the Essegian home for the foreseeable future.

Central Noble senior sharpshooter Connor Essegian, the Hoosier State’s most-feared 3-point sniper, committed to Wisconsin Wednesday night, becoming the Badgers first pledge for their Class of ‘22.

The 6-foot-4 Essegian averaged 25 points per game last season. His recruiting skyrocketed this past summer as he showcased his lethal long-distance dialing on the AAU circuit with the Indiana Elite program. Butler, Wake Forest and Minnesota were his other top choices. He made visits to Wake Forest and Wisconsin on back-to-back weekends right before school started.

This winter, Essegian will be a Mr. Basketball candidate, along with North Carolina-commit Jalen Washington (Gary West Side), Indiana-commit C.J. Gunn (Lawrence North), Purdue commits Fletcher Loyer (Homestead) and Braden Smith (Westfield) and Louisville commit Tae Davis (Warren Central). High-octane guards Will Lovings-Watts (Jeffersonville) and Tayshawn Comer (Indianapolis Cathedral) could be sleepers in the hunt for 2022 Mr. Basketball honors.
