STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: The Ludington Express ready to make stop in Houghton — LaCombe picks Michigan Tech
Ludington senior Peyton LaCombe is one of northern Michigan’s nastiest hoopsters on the wing. The second he steps foot on the hardwood, he’s coming for the competition like a runaway freight train.
The smooth, rangy 6-foot-8 forward decided he will be heading to the UP for his college career, inking with Michigan Tech at the last minute on National Signing Day. LaCombe chose Michigan Tech over Saginaw Valley. He visited both GLIAC schools in recent months.
Over the summer, LaCombe played on the AAU circuit with the state’s best west side program, the Grand Rapids Storm. Once on campus at Michigan Tech, he plans on majoring in engineering.
LaCombe is the quintessential power-&-finesse DII prospect, able to do massive damage in the open floor and the half court set, inside and out. Think a point-forward who brings the thunder at the rim and creates for his teammates.
Last winter, he logged 17 points, five assists and eight boards per game on a Ludington club that won a Division 2 district title and advanced into the “sweet 16“ regional final round of the MHSAA state tournament. As a freshman, LaCombe saw minutes on a 2019 Ludington squad that made a run into the state semifinals.
