STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: The Quarterback Report — Looking down under for future pocket princes

By: SCOTT M. BURNSTEIN, March 7, 2021, 6:00 am

Burney expects these underclassman quarterbacks in the IHSAA to breakout big time in 2021

(alphabetical order)

Evan Barker (Kokomo 6-1, 200 Soph.) — It’s about to be LIT in the pocket in ‘Kat Country, watch out, this guy is a real gunslinger in the making.

Riley Buroff (Churubusco 6-4, 185 Soph.) — Quick release, mighty fine field vision, nice touch, never-say-die attitude.

Blake Herdes (Evansville Central 6-3, 185 Soph.) — Will be a hurricane of hustle and flow under center these next two seasons, the kid has mad swag.

Gabe McGuire (Alexandria-Monroe 6-0, 170 Fr.) — Composure, fearlessness and football IQ are this diaper dandy’s best attributes at the position.

Tank Stevens (Decatur Central 6-4, 200 Soph.) — Ready to set the Circle City ablaze with his mesmerizing skill set.

Mason Reynolds (Avon 6-2, 195 Fr.) — About to show a lot of “wow factor” these next three years, a natural playmaker.

Derek Santiago (Bowman Academy 6-3, 185 Fr.) — Just scratching the surface at what he can be as a field general, all the tools for success.

Cameron Tilly (Castle 6-2, 185 Soph.) — Too hot to handle, too cold to hold type, dialed in on making these next two seasons count in a major way.

Drew Vanvleet (Richmond 6-4, 200 Soph.) — Will take his game and his team to a whole other level next fall, finds tight windows & shows real good anticipation on his throws.

Austin Vance (Rushville 6-4, 200 Soph.) — Will take his game and his team to a whole other level next fall, rocket arm, on the verge of finding his groove and knock it out of the proverbial park.
