STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: The Quarterback Report — Maximus Webster wowing under center for Westfield in ’20

By: SCOTT M. BURNSTEIN, October 2, 2020, 7:00 am

Westfield junior quarterback Maximus Webster is having a breakout campaign this fall. He’s got that Peyton Manning swag in the pocket and can make all the tough throws. His offseason preparation is paying dividends, as both Webster and his Westfield club are rocking and rolling like a Maroon 5 concert.

Mechanics, motivation and moxie makes for a mighty scary combination under center.

See: “Mix Master” Maximus Webster.

The Rocks are 5-1 and looking razor sharp after a dramatic 43-42 double overtime takedown of previously unbeaten Brownsburg last Friday night. Webster (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) had ice in his veins and surgically dissected the Brownsburg defense for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

In the spring, he carries a heavy stick as a star infielder on the baseball diamond.

Let’s go “Around The Horn” in Hoosierland’s field general crop (class by class):

• Ryan Dickenson (Centerville 6-0, 175 Sr.) — Putting it on the money every throw.

Stats: 575 yds, 13 TDs, 0 picks

• Kale Payne (Danville 6-3, 180 Jr.) — Reminds me of Bruno Mars under center because he has 24k Magic and is dripping with finesse.

Stats: 630 yards, 9 TDs, 2 picks

• Riley Buroff (Churubusco 6-4, 180 Soph.) — Just scratching the surface on what he can become.

Stats: 530 yards, 7 TDs, 0 picks

• Lucas Plummer (LaVille 6-0, 170 Fr.) — The definition of dialed in.

Stats: 525 yds, 8 TDs, 0 picks
