STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Top individual performances from the 2020 OHSAA football finals

Now that all of the OHSAA state championship football games are behind us, here’s a look back at some of the top performances of the finals:
PASSING
Brogan McCaughey, Cincinnati St. Xavier
Stats: 25 for 39 passing, 291 yards and 4 TDs in a 44-3 win over previously unbeaten Pickerington Central in the Division I championship game, as St. Xavier (10-2) built a 30-0 first-quarter lead.
Shane Hamm, Akron Archbishop Hoban
Stats: 9 of 10 passing, 172 yards and 4 TDs in a 35-6 win over Massillon Washington in the Division II title game, adding a touchdown on the ground.
Owen Treece, Van Wert
Stats: 22 of 44 passing, 274 yards and 3 TDs, adding 68 net yards and a score on 19 carries in a 31-28 win over Mentor Lake Catholic in the Division IV title game, as Van Wert won its first championship.
Myles Blasingame, Coldwater
Stats: 11 of 20 passing for 185 yards and 3 TDs, adding 99 net rushing yards and 2 TDs on 17 carries in a 38-35 win over New Middletown Springfield in the Division VI title game.
Drew Fetchik, Chardon
Stats: 9 of 14 passing, 249 yards and 2 TDs in a 31-28 double-overtime win over Columbus St. Francis DeSales. Added 87 net yards rushing and a touchdown on 19 carries.

RECEIVING
Jalen Patterson, Cincinnati St. Xavier
Stats: 5 catches for 105 yards and 4 TDs in a 44-3 win over previously unbeaten Pickerington Central, as St. Xavier (10-2) built a 30-0 first-quarter lead.
Kharion Davis, Akron Archbishop Hoban
Stats: 2 catches, 73 yards and two TDs in a 35-6 win over Massilon Washington in the Division II title game. He added a forced fumble (returning it 20 yards), as well as an interception for Hoban (11-0).

RUSHING
Beau Brungard, New Middletown Springfield
Stats: Rushed for 261 net yards and 4 TDs and went 10-for-18 passing with another score in a 38-35 loss to Coldwater in the Division VI title game.
Quintell Quinn, Columbus St. Francis DeSales
Stats: Rushed for 216 yards and three scores on 28 carries, adding a 10-yard catch and three kickoffs for 72 yards to total 298 all-purpose yards in a 31-28 double-overtime loss to unbeaten Chardon (12-0) in the Division III title game.
Mason Sullivan, Kirtland
Stats: Rushed for 125 yards and a score on 19 carries, and also tossed a 50-yard touchdown strike on his only pass attempt in a 38-0 win over Ironton in the Division V title game, as Kirtland won its third straight title.
Hunter Schaefer, New Bremen
Stats: Had 101 yards and a TD of 39 yards on 15 carries, as New Bremen (10-2) outscored Warren JFK 24-0 in the second half of the Division VII title game to win 31-0 for New Bremen’s first state title.

DEFENSE
Grant Lyons, Cincinnati St. Xavier
Stats: six tackles, 2.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble in a 44-3 win over previously unbeaten Pickerington Central in the Division I championship game.
Joe Machelsky, Mentor Lake Catholic
Stats: 11.5 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception in a 31-28 loss to Van Wert in the Division IV title game. Also rushed for 219 yards and two TDs and threw for 55 yards.
Jonathan Thompson, Columbus St. Francis DeSales
Stats: 10 solo tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and a sack in a 31-28 double-overtime loss to unbeaten Chardon in the Division III title game.
Dan Homan, New Bremen
Stats: 5.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks in a 31-0 win over Warren JFK in the Division VII title game.
Darryl Peterson, Akron Archbishop Hoban
Stats: 3.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks in a 35-6 win over Massillon Washington in the Division II title game.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Gabe DuBois, Cincinnati St. Xavier
Stats: 1 punt return, 58 yards, TD in a 44-3 win over previously unbeaten Pickerington Central in the Division I championship game.
David Homan, New Bremen
Stats: 2 punt returns for 59 yards, including a 45-yard scoring return against Warren JFK in the third quarter of a 31-0 win in the Division VII title game.
Zack McKibben, Coldwater
Stats: Amassed 351 all-purpose yards in a 38-35 win over New Middletown Springfield in the Division VI title game. He ran the ball 12 times for 82 yards, and completed one pass for 22, then caught four passes for 76 yards and two scores. He added 106 yards on three punt returns and 87 yards on three kickoff returns. It was his 72-yard punt return to the Springfield 11 with eight seconds left that set up the game-winning field goal.
Brady Klingshirn, Coldwater
Stats: Hit a 26-yard field goal as time expired to give Coldwater (12-0) a 38-35 win over New Middletown Springfield in the Division VI title game.
Damon McCracken, Van Wert
Stats: Hit a 25-yard field goal with nine seconds left to provide the go-ahead score in a 31-28 win over Mentor Lake Catholic in the Division IV title game, as Van Wert won its first crown. Also had six kickoffs for 201 yards.
Nathan Tager, Chardon
Stats: Went 1-for-3 on field goals — missing a 49-yarder with a minute left in regulation of the Division III title game, and having a 35-yarder blocked in the first OT — nailing the 33-yard game-winning field goal in the second overtime. Also had five kickoffs for 280 yards, two for touchbacks.
