Steve Hall returns to his roots, named boys basketball coach at Detroit Cass Tech
Detroit – Steve Hall returned to his alma mater on Tuesday to become the new boys varsity basketball coach.
Hall, 44, replaces David Dixon as coach and will team with football coach Thomas Wilcher and share responsibilities as the school’s athletic directors.
“I’m going in with the attitude of giving back,” Hall said. “I’ve been received very well by those at Cass. I’ve been blessed to play at a high level and coach at a high level.”
Hall spent the last four seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Youngstown State. The previous four seasons he had the same job title at Duquesne. Hall began his coaching career at Detroit Rogers where he coached for nine seasons winning three Class D titles. He then went to Detroit Northwestern for three seasons and guided the Colts to a Detroit Public School League title.
Hall said it’s heart-warming to return to Cass Tech in his present capacity. Hall recruited the Detroit area[T1] while he was an assistant in college and has many close ties within the city.
“People know I’m a family-oriented person,” he said. “I have two young boys. I’ve been diligent. I’ve seen coaches like Dan Fife (Clarkston) and Kurt Keener (formerly at Detroit Country Day), and other guys who have made (coaching/administrator) a career.”
Hall was one of the state’s top players his senior season at Cass Tech. After graduating he went on to play at Washington and Virginia Tech before playing professionally overseas.
