The Kansas Jayhawks recently journeyed to the Detroit area and dropped offers at the doorsteps of a half-dozen Motor City blue chippers:

Sophomores Avery Gach (Birmingham Groves 6-5, 280 OL) and Willie Fletcher (Detroit King 6-2, 250 DE/LB), juniors Alex Graham (Detroit Cass Tech 6-0, 185 CB/S)Cashus Shivers (Detroit Cass Tech 6-0, 180 CB/S) and Bobby Kanka (Howell 6-5, 260 DE) and freshman Khalief Canty (Detroit Cass Tech 6-5, 305 OL) all got scholarship bids from Jayhawks head coach Lance Liepold, entering his third season at the helm of the program this fall.

Liepold has won everywhere he’s gone. He’s one of the DII ranks all-time great sideline generals, winning six NCAA National Titles in 8 seasons leading the UW-Whitewater program. Before getting to Kanas in 2021, he took the University of Buffalo to three Division I bowl appearances and two wins.

In more recent years, Kansas has been focusing on recruiting the Detroit PSL and PSL alums through the transfer portal. This upcoming season’s roster features PSL alums, linebacker Rich Miller (Detroit King), safety Marvin Grant (Detroit King) and cornerback Kalon Gervin (Detroit Cass Tech. Miller followed Liepold from Buffalo.
