Three Catholic League powers plus Canton, Chippewa Valley, Fordson and Lake Orion headline the 2015 PKC lineup

The 11th annual Prep Kickoff Classic will be held, once again, at Wayne State University on Aug. 27-29.

This season the PKC will be held the weekend before the busy Labor Day weekend. 

The classic features three defending state champions in two of its three games on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Defending Division 7 champion Detroit Loyola will play defending Division 3 champion Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Division 3) at 11 a.m. This will be the first meeting between the two Catholic League schools. Loyola won its first title last season after losing in the final each of the previous two seasons.

Warren De La Salle, coming off its first title (Division 2), will meet perennial Detroit Public School League power, Detroit King, at 2 p.m.

The nightcap pits defending PSL champion Detroit Cass Tech against Southfield, which lost to De La Salle in the state semifinals, at 5 p.m. This is a rematch of a 2013 PKC game.

On Thursday the seven-game classic kicks off with a Downriver League matchup, Southgate Anderson against Trenton, at 4 p.m. Lake Orion will face Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, a Division 1 regional finalist last season, at 7. Last season Chippewa Valley defeated Lake Orion, 38-35, at Chippewa Valley.

On Friday another Downriver League game will held at 4 p.m. Allen Park, 4-0 in PKC games, will play Taylor Kennedy, which will makes its first appearance.

Another first-time matchup will follow this game and features Canton against Dearborn Fordson at 7.

The Downriver League brings two of its matchups to Midtown. Southgate Anderson and Trenton will open the event on Thursday at 4 p.m. Both schools will each be making their third appearance in the event. On Friday, Allen Park, boasting a 4-0 record in the Prep Kickoff Classic, takes on newcomer Taylor Kennedy, at 4 p.m.
