Tournament play picks up this weekend for girls and boys

Farmington Hills – A plethora of tournament games, girls and boys, will be held this weekend at three different sites.
North Farmington will be the site of the first Oakland Invitational this weekend. And on Saturday Horatio Williams again presents the Horatio Williams Tip-Off Classic at Detroit Edison and at Grosse Pointe South the Best of Michigan Holiday Classis will be held.
Let’s start in Detroit where top-ranked Detroit Western (1-0) will face No. 2 Saginaw Arthur Hill in Saturday’s finale at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Five games precede this one beginning at noon with Detroit East English Village Prep (0-1) facing Edison.
The second game, scheduled to start at 1:30, features two teams ranked in the top 25, Detroit Renaissance and Ypsilanti.
Tickets for this one-day tournament is $10, free for children 5-and-under.
The Oakland Invitational is a three-day event beginning on Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and is free for children 5-and-under.
On Friday the North Farmington girls team will face Walled Lake Western at 5. The third and final game is the featured matchup and pits Detroit Henry Ford against Ann Arbor Huron. Both teams were ranked in the preseason top 25. Game time is scheduled for 8:30.
There are six games on Saturday, five boys and one girls game. The first is at noon and the final game between three-time defending Class D boys champion Southfield Christian and North Farmington is scheduled for an 8:30 start.
On Sunday there are four boys games beginning at noon. The last game, between Southfield and Walled Lake Central, is scheduled to start at 5:15 p.m.
At South 11 girls games will be played. South will utilize two gyms to guarantee the completion of all games. Action begins at 9:20 a.m. with Ann Arbor Huron taking on Flint Powers.
One featured game is defending Class A champion Birmingham Marian (2-0) against Benton Harbor (1-1). Benton Harbor is led by the Gondrezick sisters, Kalabrya and Kysre. This game is scheduled to start at 5:40 p.m.
At 9 p.m. the finals features Clarkston against G.P. South.
