Week 2 superlatives: Who excelled around Michigan on the second weekend of the 2020 prep football season?

Here’s a look at some of the top performances around the state in the second week of the 2020 season. A few players had historic days, matching or exceeding school records, while a dialed-in Christian Dhue-Reid may have had the line of thee weekend, throwing for seven scores in Belleville’s 69-0 win over Dearborn Fordson, making him the fourth player in state history to throw more than 100 TD passes in his career.

Passing

Kaidan Andrews, QB, Shepherd — Threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns in the Bluejays’ 54-6 win over Farwell. 

Cole Austin, QB, Homer — Threw for 164 yards and four touchdowns, adding a rushing touchdown in a 33-12 win over Union City. 

Jack Bakus, QB, Midland Dow — Went 14-for-15 passing for 229 yards and five TDs in a 37-6 win over Saginaw. 

Jacob Bendtsen, QB, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep — Threw for 131 yards and two scores and ran for two more scores in a 35-14 win over Harper Woods. 

Brady Berezowsky, QB, Fraser — Threw for 234 yards and three scores in a 42-28 win over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore. 

Conner Christner, QB, Roscommon — Threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 103 yards and a touchdown in a 38-16 win over Manton. 

Jacob Conklin, QB, Vicksburg — Threw for 181 yards and three scores and ran for two more in a 43-0 win over Three Rivers.

Holden D’Arcy, QB, Hartland — Threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 130 more and two scores in a win over Plymouth.

Christian Dhue-Reid, QB, Belleville — Threw for 308 yards and seven touchdowns in a 69-0 win over Dearborn Fordson, putting him over the 100-touchdown plateau for his career. 

Brennan Hayes, QB, Hudsonville — Threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns in a 53-0 win over Grand Haven. 

Brady Hessbrook, QB, Ithaca — Threw for 157 yards and three scores, including the game-winning, 23-yard, fourth-down scoring pass to Zach Poff in the final minutes of a 39-34 win over Bullock Creek. Hessbrook also ran for a touchdown. 

Tyler Holtz, QB, DeWitt — Threw for a school-record 405 yards on 19 of 28 passing to go with five TD passes in a 64-38 win over Grand Ledge. 

Branden Miller, QB, East Kentwood — Threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-42 loss to Grandville. 

Al Money, QB, Midland — Threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 94 yards and two scores in a 42-20 win over Saginaw Heritage. 

Brady Rose, QB, Muskegon Mona Shores — Threw for 118 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns and ran for the game-winning score with just under five minutes left in a 21-14 win over Muskegon. 

Ryan Schuster, QB, Chippewa Valley — Was 17-for-28 passing for 274 yards and four scores in the Big Reds’ 37-17 win over Romeo.

Joey Silveri, QB, Grand Rapids Catholic Central — Threw for 220 yards and three scores in a 50-7 win over Thornapple Kellogg. 

Bobby Skinner, QB, Montrose — Threw for 204 yards and two scores in a 42-0 win over Chesaning and added 128 yards rushing and another score. 

Tanner Slazinski, QB, Bloomfield Hills — Threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in a 34-7 win over Royal Oak. 

Alex Thole, QB, Schoolcraft — Threw for 279 yards and six touchdowns in a 47-8 win over Saugatuck.

Rushing

Sterling Anderson, RB, Detroit King — Had 119 yards and a touchdown on just six carries in a 33-7 win over Detroit Western. 

Cam’ron Burford, RB, Stoney Creek — Ran for 220 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-14 win over North Farmington, adding a touchdown catch. 

Carter Cryderman, RB, Davison — Ran for 205 yards and five scores vs. Grand Blanc — part of Davison’s 481 rushing yards on the game — adding 52 receiving yards.

Alton Davis, QB, Genesee —Ran for 277 yards and four touchdowns, and threw for 234 yards and three more touchdowns in a 61-20 win over Atherton. 

Owen Franklin, QB, Oscoda — Ran for 110 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 132 yards and a score in a 50-0 win over Rogers City. 

Asher Gregory, RB, East Lansing — Ran for 115 yards and two scores in a 21-6 win over River Rouge. 

Kolby Hindenach, RB, Paw Paw — Ran for 207 yards and three scores in a 52-0 win over Otsego.

Tommy Kartes, RB, Muskegon Catholic Central — Ran for 144 yards and four TDs, adding an interception on defense. 

Marcel Love, RB, Grandville — Ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-42 win over East Kentwood. 

Brayden McKenna, RB, Lapeer — Ran for 227 yards and three scores and added a TD through the air in a 36-21 win over Flint Powers. 

Jordan Mester, RB, Cass City — Carried the ball 17 times for 139 yards and three TDs in a 42-3 win over Reese.

Gabe Meyers, QB, Martin — Ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 140 yards and two more scores in a 39-12 win over Bridgman. 

Anthony Tyus III, RB, Portage Northern — Ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-6 win over Mattawan. 

DJ Voltz, RB/DB, Carrollton — Ran for 172 yards and two scores, running for one 2-point conversion and throwing for another. On defense he forced a fumble and recovered another.

Caden Woodall, RB, Livonia Stevenson — Ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries in a 50-6 win over Wayne Memorial. 

Ashton Wright, RB, Saginaw Nouvel — Ran for three touchdowns and 289 yards in a 34-15 win over Michigan Lutheran Seminary, adding four catches for 79 yards.

Receiving

Andrel Anthony, WR, East Lansing — Had three catches for 84 yards despite double-teaming from River Rouge in a 21-6 win over the defending D3 champs. 

Kumauri Bennett, Eastpointe — Caught four passes for 86 yards and a score, adding a pick-6 and a punt return for a score in a 42-0 win over Warren Woods Tower. 

Tommy McIntosh, WR, DeWitt — Caught eight passes for a school-record 245 yards and four TDs in a 64-38 win over Grand Ledge.

Jace Williams, WR, Grand Rapids Catholic Central — Caught seven passes for 141 yards and two scores in a 50-7 win over Thornapple Kellogg, tying the school record for career TD catches with his 30th.

Defense

Myles Rowser, DB, Belleville — Recorded six tackles (1 TFL), a sack, and broke up a pass in a win over Dearborn Fordson.

Kaylee Hall, Ovid-Elsie — Had a game-sealing interception in O-E’s 19-0 win over Otisville LakeVille. 

Connor Hindenach, DE, Paw Paw — Had nine tackles, three for loss, and a forced fumble in a 52-0 win over Otsego. Added a rushing touchdown from his fullback position on offense.

Milestone wins:

• Walled Lake Western coach Weiskopf with his first career win. 

• Jenison’s win over West Ottawa was its first in the series since a 51-20 win in 2004.

• Muskegon Mona Shores snapped a five-game losing streak in the series against rival Muskegon, dating back to a win in the regular-season meeting in 2015.

• Second-year program Dearborn Advanced Tech beat MIAC favorite Whitmore Lake in overtime, 20-14, using a goal-line stand in OT to preserve the win. One more victory will match last year’s total of three.
