Winter 2019-20 All-Junior Team watch lists for wrestling

Of the wresters on our watch list, we have six who have already won state titles in their high school career, five of those last year, as sophomores.
Rochester’s Kavan Troy didn’t qualify for the final weekend as a freshman, but went 50-0 as a sophomore to win the D1 title at 103 pounds.
Macomb Dakota’s Brendan Ferretti finished third in D1 at 103 as a freshman, then bumped up a weight class and won the 112 title with a perfect 54-0 record.
Jake Elasivich of Montrose finished third in D3 at 103 in 2018, then bumped up two weight classes to win the 119 title last season.
We also have two wrestlers who already have two state titles under their belts, and are aiming for a third this spring in Dundee’s Stoney Buell and Davison’s Alex Facundo. Facundo is the nation’s top-ranked wrestler in the 170-pound class.
Alma’s Dametrius Castillo won the D3 state title at 119 as a freshman, then finished eighth in the same weight class last spring.
We also have six juniors who finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes as sophomores: Dearborn Heights Crestwood’s Zein Bazzi, Warren Woods Tower’s Joe Haynes, Williamston’s Luke Mahaney, Dundee’s Tyler Swiderski, Hudson’s Caden Natale and Clinton’s Brayden Randolph.
Natale and Randolph finished third in their respective weight classes as freshmen, while Swiderski has back-to-back runner-up finishes.
In addition, we have 48 more juniors who earned all-state honors as sophomores, and are a threat to make a run at joining the final four by the end of the season. The final four will be announced the week of March 25, with the final winter All-Junior squad to be announced around April 22.
