Ypsilanti Lincoln sophomore Emoni Bates continued collecting honors this week, adding first-team All-America honors from MaxPreps.

He was the only underclassman on the first, second or third teams, joining Montverde (Fla.) Academy’s Scottie Barnes (Florida State signee) and Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State), as well as Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep’s Jalen Green and Minneapolis Minnehaha Academy’s Jalen Suggs (Gonzaga) on the first team.

Benton Harbor’s Carlos “Scooby” Johnson, the winner of Michigan’s Mr. Basketball award for 2020, was an honorable mention, as was Flint Beecher’s Jalen Terry.

Named the Gatorade Michigan Boys Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight year earlier this month, Bates also earned second-team Naismith High School All-American honors.

Bates averaged 32.4 points, nine rebounds, three assists and 2.2 steals for the Railsplitters.
