And Michigan State got the nod after all.
River Rouge senior wide receiver Nick Marsh clearly rediscovered his love for Spartan football in the first part of the summer. For the past three seasons, Marsh has been dubbed the MHSAA’s “Megatron” (a nod to retired Detroit Lions WR and future NFL HOF’er Calvin Johnson).
Marsh (6-3, 195), the 4-star recruit and the No. 1 pass-catching prospect in the MHSAA, re-committed to Michigan State on January 7th in a ceremony at his high school. He vacated his previous MSU pledge back in March to explore other options. His visit to East Lansing last month helped seal the deal.
Marsh’s list of finalists included, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt. and Kansas. Michigan, Miami (FL), Oklahoma, Tennessee Notre Dame, UCLA, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Arizona State and Auburn also offered.
As a junior, “Megatron” Marsh he caught 60 balls for 800 yards and 8 touchdowns on a 5-5 club that lost to eventual state champion Detroit King in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs. At the split end spot, he draws comparisons to past MSU greats Andre Rison, Derrek Mason and Plaxico Burress. On the basketball floor last winter, the high-flying Marsh was one of Metro Detroit’s top wings and 3-point shooters, averaging 22 points and 6 rebounds per game for the RR Panthers hoop squad.
Going Green In Ohio
The Buckeye border was calling his name.
Roseville senior safety Elijah Parker, one of the most intriguing prospects in the state’s Class of ’24 secondary crop, committed to Bowling Green this week and will head to Ohio to play his college pigskin.
Parker (6-3, 200) is rangy and fast with a high motor and ball hawk instincts. Besides BGSU, Miami (OH), Marshall, Central Michigan and Western Michigan were in hot pursuit for his talents at the next level. As a junior, Parker collected 65 tackles and picked off a pair of passes.
Leaving town: parting is such sweet sorrow
A truo of four-star recruits in Detroit Cass Tech junior safety Alex Graham, the second highest rated prospect in the state’s Class of ’25 and Birmingham Detroit Country Day senior running back Gabe Winowich, the state’s top ball carrier, and OrOrchard Lale St. Mary’s sophomore cornerback A.J. Marks, the No. 1 cover corner in the Class of ’26. are all leaving the state for the 2023 campaign.
Graham (6-2, 185) and Marks (5-10, 175) both transferred to IMG Academy in Florida last week. Winowich (6-1, 220) announced this week that he’s transferring to Notre Dame High School in Mercet County, New Jersey to finish out his high school days. Back in the winter, Winowich committed to Rutgers, which is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He could potentially switch to linebacker when he gets on campus.
